Most travel apps want you to begin a trip, add stops and remember to post. Pathvault just pays attention, so you don't have to.
Allow location “Always” when the app asks. That is the only setup there is.
No buttons, no check-ins. Pathvault records quietly in the background and rests while your phone lies still.
Your trips are already there, each named for where you went, with its nights, its map and your pictures.
Your photos fill in the years before. Pathvault reads when and where your photos were taken, so the trips from before you installed it are there on the first day. The photos themselves never leave your phone.

The photos you marked as favourites fill the pages first. Screenshots stay out. Choose the others yourself, or leave it to the book.

Your trips live on your iPhone and in your own iCloud, locked with keys only your devices hold.
Nothing is measured, nothing is sold, and nothing inside the app comes from anyone else.
Mark home, or anywhere, as private. It never shows up in a book, a widget or a search.
Take it all with you, any time. Everything Pathvault knows can be saved as ordinary files from the Mac app, with or without a subscription. Delete something and it is gone from every device, for good.

The iPhone does the recording; the Mac is a bonus, never a requirement.
Pathvault asks for your location only as often as it needs to. When your phone lies still, at home or at your desk, it rests and waits until you move again.
Your phone keeps recording and nothing is ever deleted. Looking at your trips and making books needs the subscription, but you can always export all your data as ordinary files, straight from the app. Subscribe again later and everything in between is there.
No. There is no Pathvault server and no account with us. Your trips sit on your devices and in your own iCloud, encrypted with keys only your devices hold. Apple can't read them, and neither can we.
Because your trips happen while your phone is in your pocket. With “While Using the App”, Pathvault only knows where you are when it's open on screen, so a day out or a whole holiday would be missing. With “Always” it notes your places quietly in the background, and rests when you stay put, so your battery hardly notices. You can change it any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services › Pathvault.
Pathvault does not read your Health data: no steps, heart rate or workouts. What iOS asks is “Motion & Fitness”, which only tells whether you were walking, cycling or in a car at a moment. Pathvault uses that to draw your trips with the right way of travelling. Say no and everything still works; trips just guess the way you travelled from the speed. It stays on your own devices.
Your iPhone's Camera saves where each photo was taken, if it's allowed to. Check it in Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services › Camera and choose “While Using the App”. Photos taken from then on carry their place. Then give Pathvault access to your photos, all of them or the ones you pick, and it finds your trips and places from them. Pathvault only reads when and where a photo was taken; the photos stay in Photos.
Because your travels never reach us. There is no Pathvault server, no account and no tracking or ads in the app. Your history lives on your iPhone and your Mac and travels between them through your own iCloud, encrypted with keys only your devices hold. Nothing is shared unless you share it yourself: a book or a picture you chose to make. And you can export everything as ordinary files at any time. How we handle your privacy.
Yes. One subscription covers your Apple family through Family Sharing. Everyone keeps their own travels on their own devices; nobody sees anyone else's trips.
No. Everything works on the iPhone alone, books included. The Mac app is there if you'd like a bigger screen.
If you allow it, Pathvault looks at when and where your photos were taken and finds your earlier trips from them. It only reads the time and place, never the photos themselves.
Yes. You get a PDF at print quality in the size you chose, from A4 to a 30 cm square, that any print shop or photo service can print, plus a picture of every page to share. During the free month each page carries a small Pathvault line; it goes as soon as you subscribe.
Pathvault is in beta with a small group of travellers and is coming to the App Store. One subscription covers your iPhone and your Mac, with a free month to try everything.
